January 2007: A Little Culture

Never Hurt Anyone

  • Describe your school’s core values and why they are the school’s core values.

  • Some schools write core value statements. If your school has them, are they aligned with what the school says in its mission, policies, and tradition? If not, what needs to be done—change the core values or change the school’s activities?

  • If your school has not published core values, they probably exist in the minds of the stakeholders. Would you—could you—be surprised by what various stakeholders think the core values are? What trouble can this cause? What can you do about it?

  • To what must all your core values be connected? Which passages from Scripture form the foundation of your school’s culture? How do your core values spring from these passages?
