2018 LSAC

Under their Alliance banner, the Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools (ALSS), LCMS School Ministry, and Lutheran Education Association (LEA) met April 19–21 to plan a conference for leaders in Lutheran educational ministries. The conference theme is Leading Together, based on the divinely inspired wisdom of Ecclesiastes 4:12—“A threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

Leading Together features workshops, sectionals, plenary sessions, and a learning mall for administrators of early childhood centers, elementary schools of all sizes, secondary schools, and district and synodical education entities. Devotions, fellowship, recreation, and spouse events round out the anticipated schedule.

The Lutheran School Administrators Conference (LSAC) is scheduled for March 11–13, 2018 at the Embassy Suites Orlando—Lake Buena Vista South, Kissimmee, Fla.

Questions & Answers

Most recent on top...

Q: No room at Embassy Suites?
A: Lutheran School Administrators Conference and Holiday Inn Orlando Southwest--Celebration have made arrangements for extra rooms at a reduced rate to reflect the inconvenience of not being on site ($129.00), which includes complimentary internet, breakfast, and parking. Call Holiday Inn at 407-396-4222 for reservations. Tell them you are booking under the LSAC block, booking code L61.

Q: How do I get from the Orlando International Airport to the hotel?
A: Do not trust anyone looking like a Disney character who offers you a ride. An alternative is to use this coupon for a discount on the Mears Motor Shuttle. Be sure to read all the information on the coupon, which is good for March 9-14 to and from the Embassy Suites Orlando South. (If you're coming early and are at the Hampton, it's only a short walk from Embassy Suites.)
Among additional alternatives are taxis, SuperShuttle, and Uber.

Q: What is the Alliance?
A: The Alliance of ALSS, LCMS School Ministry, and LEA models systemic trust, collaboration, and encouragement to enhance the support of Lutheran schools and expand the capacity to advance our distinctive missions.

Q: How do the registration and hotel costs compare with other leadership conferences?
ARegistration cost for the LSAC is $325 for full participant registration and the hotel is $139 per room per night for the March 11–13 conference. Breakfast and before-dinner receptions are provided, as well as worship and a banquet.
Registration cost for the National Leadership Forum (NLF), a 2-day conference this June, is $499 and the hotel is $169 per room per night. Granted the NLF carries the impressive Tim Elmore influence, but the LSAC will offer an impressive program of its own.

Q: How can I connect with others during the LSAC?
A: Watch program announcements for social media opportunities. In the meantime, here are some tips helpful for all conferences.

Q: Do I need to bring a tent and grill for Edcamp?
A: No, Ed will supply it! You bring the Lutheran refreshments.

Q: You're kidding?
A: Yes. The truth: The Edcamp model of professional development includes sessions set by the participants at the beginning of the event, and participants are encouraged to have discussions and hands-on sessions, instead of one person “presenting” to the room. You will learn how to use this model in your own schools and ministries while also participating in a live Edcamp for the last session of the conference!

Q: Do I need gym shoes and a note from my doctor to allow me on the Interactive Learning Playground?
A: Just begging for another smart-alecky answer aren't you? Well, the smart-aleck left for Edcamp, so here it is straight:
The Interactive Learning Playground is a casual learning space that drives interaction between attendees by showcasing best practices, innovations in education, new technologies, and hands-on content showcased by relevant vendors and service providers.

Q: Where can I get a downloadable copy of the program information?
A: Right here. And have this handy for when you actually fill out the registration form.

Q: What is this I hear about the Disney experience being limited?
A: As you register, please note: Disney has provided a unique opportunity for LSAC administrators to experience the Disney parks and its Disney Youth Education Series. Each of the two experience options has a maximum of 150 registrants available on a first-come, first-served basis to administrators who register at the Basic Registration level (not spouses, emeriti, or exhibitors). All registrants in all categories will receive a ticket for an evening at a Disney park.

Q: Sectionals are labeled by area of administration--early childhood, elementary, and secondary. What if I want to attend a sectional outside of my area?
A: What happens at LSAC stays in LSAC.

Q: An Asia Summit is part of the preconference schedule. Did Space Mountain move to Asia?
A: Not that kind of summit! See the program details here.
